As a current student of Syracuse University, I firmly stand in solidarity with the #RecognizeUsSU movement. I am not the leader of this emerging, collegiate grassroots movement that mirrors the activism happening at other universities across the United States.
Recognize US believes it has long been known to students of marginalized identities that PWIs (predominately white-serving institutions) can, and should, do more to foster inclusive climates that protect them from discrimination. Its collective membership drives a social movement that it aims to combat the systemic oppression of students who inhabit margins.
I decided to created a space for #RecognizeUsSU within the Brown Mujeres Media platform to elevate the voices of students that for too long have been silenced.
